How is LICP different from camera clubs?

Our mission is to establish an educational and research facility on Long Island, with resources for the study of the history of photography and the archival study of specific artists (with special emphasis on Long Island artists). This facility will also serve as a space for "showcasing" contemporary work. As an organization, we promote diversity and creativity in the field of photography and new media and bring knowledge and enjoyment of these activities to as broad and varied an audience as possible.

Who are LICP members?

Most of our members are from Nassau County and the surrounding areas. We are a diverse group of photographers who gather monthly for the purpose of exchanging ideas, discussing photography as art and sharing work while encouraging others to advance their skills and hone their talents.

What do you do at meetings?

In addition to having fun, we explore different aspects of photography that are of interest to the group. We suggest optional projects to work on. For example, "photograph a found object and turn it into art by manipulating light, camera position, etc." or "create a photographic image that you’ve never done before and bring it in to share and discuss."

Are there other opportunities at LICP?

One of the most exciting opportunities at LICP is exhibiting our work in galleries. We have had several shows recently and have more scheduled for the coming year. We exhibit our work in local galleries, museums, libraries and other venues.
See Events for our current listing.

Are there any other benefits to being a member?

Membership in LICP offers opportunities for networking with other photographers and artists and participating in a grass-roots movement to develop a unique educational and research facility on Long Island for the study of photography. Members also can participate in LICP events, workshops and seminars.

We are currently developing discount programs for our members with local vendors.
